Hesitating to say how much we like it because we want to be able to get a reservation for the next visit to NYC.
Spacious room with plentiful surfaces, normal size closet, dresser with drawers and plentiful shelf space in roomy bathroom so you can lay out your toiletries and operate without banging into your partner. Good lighting that you can adjust to suit your preference in bedroom (overhead not necessary if it isn’t your preference). Good wall sconces for reading in bed. Abundant lighting and large mirrors in bathroom (including full length on inside of bathroom door). Somewhat slow but reliable elevators. Friendly, very customer-service oriented staff in every role: reception, bellman, breakfast team and housekeeping. Extra towels delivered quickly upon request, extra blanket and pillow in the closet, along with mini fridge they will plug in if requested. Also, a safe. Laundry service and room service from Tony’s next door available. Flat screen TV in the room but no annoying message from the hotel playing when you walk into your room.
Great restaurant recommendations from staff as well as walking tips to avoid crowds if you are in a hurry or just sick of navigating through clumps of student groups and tourists clogging/gawking/snapping photos in Times Square. Felt very safe to be walking around after 11pm in Times Square and surrounding areas. This is NOT the Times Square of the 1970’s!
Pleasant lounge/sitting room/Rick’s cafe with TV so you can spread out at a dining table outside breakfast service to work in a semi-public space, play a game or work a puzzle or sit and scroll your device in a comfy chair with tea, coffee, seltzer, hot chocolate, cappuccino (with caffein and decaf) and baked goods and fruit all day and night. Saw guests holding small business meetings in the cafe, free WiFi and NYTimes for guests and access to nearby sports club for $17/day fee (didn’t use - too much to do in NYC). Very reasonable day rate for the City. So close to Times Square Subway stop where you can go in every direction, including to LIRR or MetroNorth or the Staten Island Ferry which is still free and departs on the hour and half hour, where you pass the Statue of Liberty in NY harbor which remains a symbol of our American Democracy that welcomes immigrants and qualified refugees.
24 hour chemist/drug store and sit down-eat in eateries within two blocks of hotel, including NY’s famous hot dog, pretzel, halal food and breakfast sandwich street vendors and plentiful public benches on 6th Ave and cafe tables in pedestrian zone in Times Square on which to sit while you enjoy the flavors and sights of the ‘greatest city in the world’. Though located just steps from the lights and crowds of Times Square, the hotel feels like a quiet oasis. Easy entry (a door person always at front entrance to welcome you and provide security and eager to assist with luggage) and saw a guest in a big wheelchair, so clearly accessible no matter the mobility needs of visitors. Continental breakfast more than adequate. The same every day so you might want to go out to breakfast to change up the menu during a lengthy stay but the staff will heat up a bowl of instant oatmeal and add dried cranberries and slice banana if you request it. Cinnamon and whole milk at Coffee Bar and almond milk if you ask for it. Cereal, hard boiled eggs, pastries, yogurts. All replenished with a smile.
We were thoroughly satisfied with our 4 night stay and will return any time we are going to the theater in theater district in NYC. Too convenient - just minutes to most theaters. The Todd Haines Theater, performance space for Roundabout Theater Company is probably the furthest away to the north within theater district. Close to Diamond District, Garment District (including so many findings stores!), MOMA, Rockefeller Center and The NY Public Library/Bryant Park if you have NYC walking stamina. Lincoln Center is just a couple of Subway stops away. You just need a device with a chip in it to enter subway, no metrocard necessary. With only about 50 rooms, the service feels personal rather than the impersonal service you get at large chain hotels. Oh, and check out the lovely little outdoor courtyard adjacent to lounge area - which also has an upright piano!
